Adopting a healthy lifestyle in this era of fast food and fizzy drinks can be hard. Especially when time is not on our side. Running in a rat race leaves most of us uninspired and unenergetic. But breaking out of the routine to make way for some health changes is a good place to start. Although plenty of healthy snack options exist, it still has plenty preservatives hidden salts and sugars that are no good. Prepare your own. Invite a few friends to make it fun. Make enough to last a week or two and enjoy.

Basically nuts

Especially when it comes to mixed nuts there are so many options to choose from. But, they are a bit on the pricey side as opposed to preparing some at home. It is also true that most of the prepacked option are salted and preservatives added to increase shelf life. Taking a clear steer for a health change should mean clean ingredients. Free from unwanted additives. A mix of peanuts, almonds, pistachios, walnuts, pumpkin seeds and even some dried raisins can be tossed together. Place in tall jar and add salt to taste.  Grab a handful on the go. It’s a filling snack packed with a lot of nutrients.

Sweet on potato

Thinly slices sweet potatoes, baked until crispy. These yummy options are filled with vitamins, complex carbohydrates and proteins. They keep you feeling full and satisfied for long, thus can even replace a meal. Great source of energy. Consume during the day.

Roll out the mangoes

Although they contain lots of sugar, it is still considered a healthy snack. Full of vitamin A and helps boost metabolism. It’s so yummy even kids will love it. A healthier option to candies and artificially sweetened fruit juices. Slice mangoes into thin strips and bake. Flip sides occasionally to avoid over cooking on one side. Cool and store in air tight containers.

Fruity freeze

A cool treat that is both refreshing and yummy. Great during the summer. Mix unsweetened yoghurt with honey and fruit bits of your choosing. Sprinkle some heart healthy dark chocolate and pour into individual mini moulds. Freeze and enjoy. Full of all sorts of goodness. Un-guilty pleasure indeed.

Bananas over oatmeal

Great soft chewy cookies with no flour. Very healthy option that’s filling. Wisk bananas, oatmeal, egg, milk, peanut butter and honey and bake. A great breakfast replacement that’s completely satisfying. Bake and share with friends and family.  And as you enjoy these great snacks, you might just forget that they are the ‘healthy options’.
